Mary E. (Betty) Flanagan, 99, Lakeland, Florida but long-time resident of Watertown, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mary E. Germain, Lakeland on September 5, 2013. She is also survived by three sons, Lawrence (Susan) Rima, Bridgeport, Malcolm (Marie) Rima, Staten Island and Lakeland, and Michael (Linda) Flanagan, Watertown, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Born on April 11, 1914 in Watertown a daughter of John F. and Helena Loughlin Prievo, she attended area schools and married Lawrence Rima, of Syracuse, who died in 1939, and later married Michael J. Flanagan of Watertown on October 2, 1941. Mr. Flanagan, a retired New York Air Brake machinist, died in 1978. Through her working career, Mrs. Flanagan had worked for the Jefferson County Department of Social Services, the NY Air Brake, H&R Block, the accounting office of Leon Robb, Watertowns Montgomery Ward store and the Rustic and C-Way Golf Clubs. Mr. and Mrs. Flanagan were avid local golfers and she also loved to bowl, read, sew, garden and crochet. She was an active woman who worked into her 70s until her health caused her to finally retire at 80.
She was predeceased by her husband, parents, her three siblings, Helena Prievo Loveland Shelmidine, Estella Prievo Matteson and Meredith Prievo.
There will be no calling hours and the details of a local memorial service are incomplete, but please contact the family for further information. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are encouraged to be made to the charity of ones choice.
