HEUVELTON - Randy A. Johnson, of Ogdensburg, will take over as the interim middle and high school principal at Heuvelton Central School after the resignation of Michael W. Warden.
Mr. Warden resigned after being hired as the high school principal at Salmon River Central School earlier this week. He begins at Salmon River on Monday.
Mr. Johnson retired earlier this year after serving as the Colton-Pierrepont Central School principal for 11 years.
I was pleasantly surprised that Mr. Johnson was available, Superintendent Susan E. Todd said.
Mr. Johnson has been in education since 1982 when he worked as an instrumental music teacher at Kennedy Elementary School in Ogdensburg Mrs. Todd said Mr. Johnson will begin serving on Friday at a per diem rate of $425. His per diem contract expires on Nov. 1.
Were going to try to aggressively search for a new principal, but if we dont find someone within the next six weeks then we will consider our options, Mrs. Todd said.
Mrs. Todd said Mr. Johnson is willing to stay on longer if necessary.
Mr. Wardens last day of employment is technically Sunday but Mrs. Todd said he plans on taking a personal day on Friday.
Although Mr. Wardens terms of employment require he give the district 30 days notice before moving to a new job, Mrs. Todd said the fast transition in this instance is okay thanks to the districts ability to find someone to fill Mr. Wardens shoes. Mrs. Todd said Mr. Warden was more than willing to abide by his contract, but she and the board of education were willing to let him go early so long as they could find a replacement.
It all worked out really nicely, she said.
