MASSENA - Five different players generated solo goals on Thursday as the Massena Central varsity boys soccer team outscored Gouverneur 5-0 at Mike Nicholas Field for its first NAC Central Division win of the season.
Forrest Brockway netted the only goal the Raiders would need in the 23rd minute off an assist from Dylan Stone. Dan Elman and Dalton Mullin then broke the game open with unassisted goals just three minutes apart in the closing stages of the first half.
Tyler Young pushed the Massena lead to 4-0 assisted by Mullin in the 26th minute of the second half. Phillip Sharpe closed out the scoring when he connected from Jason Hammill with just under seven minutes left in regulation.
Cameron Marsh handled the two shots he faced backstopping the shutout while Tom Andrews recorded 25 saves for the Wildcats (0-4, 0-3).
The Raiders are slated to return to action on Monday when they head to Canton Central for their first road game of the season.
The lone other Central Division matchup on Thursday saw OFA turn back Franklin Academy 4-0. Matt Piercey netted two goals two minutes apart midway through the first half to spark the winning effort as the Blue Devils improved to 3-0 in the division. Peyton Lalone and Conor Hannan both finished with a goal and assist while Jacob Sias made 16 saves to earn the shutout.
Austin Lamay stopped 10 shots as the Huskies suffered their first loss of the season.
In the NAC West Division boys soccer games staged on Thursday, Lisbon blanked Clifton-Fine 5-0, Morristown doubled Heuvelton 4-2 and Harrisville beat Hammond 7-1. Edwards-Knox at Hermon-DeKalb was postponed due to poor field conditions.
The only West Division girls soccer matchup on Thursday, Harrisville dropped Hammond 4-2.
