Potsdam pedestrian’s condition declines after hit by car

POTSDAM — The Potsdam pedestrian who was struck by a motor vehicle early Thursday has gone from fair to critical condition, according to hospital officials.

St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies investigated the 1:36 a.m. accident that sent Christopher L. Deshane, 36, of 645 Sissonville Road, to Fletcher Allen Health care, Burlington, Vt., with head injuries.

Deputies said Natalie G. Plunkett, 26, of 575 Sissonville Road, was driving south on Route 56 during heavy rain and observed Mr. Deshane as he was in the road, attempted to avoid him and sideswiped him.

He was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital before being transferred to Fletcher Allen. His condition declined from fair on Thursday night to critical Friday afternoon.

The investigation is continuing. Deputies said Ms. Plunkett was not ticketed and probably will not be charged with a crime.

Deputies were assisted by Potsdam Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Potsdam police and state police.
