Several area horseshoe participants place at New York State Horseshoe Tournament


SOUTH NEW BERLIN - Several Northern New York Horseshoe competitors participated in the New York State Horseshoe Pitching Championships held at South New Berlin over Labor Day weekend.

Zeke Montroy, Ogdensburg, finished first in the Class A qualifying on Friday, August 30. John Pautler of Stamford was second followed by Canton native Dick Pike.

In the Championship Class on Sunday, Sept. 1, Castorland’s Dale Catlin captured the coveted title in Elders Division while Montroy, Pautler, and Pike finished in a three way tie for second with a 5-and-2 ringer record.

Montroy was declared the winner of the tiebreaker based on ringer percentage. Pautler was second and Pike claimed third.

In the Class B Elders Division, Ogdensburg’s Greg LeBouef finished in a tie for first place and lost in the playoff game to finish second. Peter Back of Hogansburg placed third in the division.

Rodger James Sr. of Parishville went 4-2 and placed fourth after a three way tie for second in Elders Class C.

In the Class C Men’s Division, Roger James Jr. of Parishville finished third with a 4-3 mark.

The State Doubles Championship will be held in Waterloo on Saturday.
