On September 10, 2013 Ann Marie Belcher nee Garifo, formerly of Three Mile Bay, passed away in Chandler, Arizona after a long and brave fight against Alzheimers disease.
Ann was born in Watertown to Mariano and Livia Garifo and grew up on Michigan Avenue in a home her father built. She was a graduate of Immaculate Heart Academy in Watertown. She worked for Cooperative Extension and later in Medical Records at Mercy Hospital prior to moving to Arizona. She worked to complete her education in Medical Records Technology. Once in Arizona she worked for Mesa General Hospital and retired in 2002 from the Arizona Department of Corrections, where she served as the program director for Medical Records for the state of Arizona prison system for some time.
Ann is survived by her children Amy and Chris Benesch of Maricopa, Arizona, Dana and Stephen Valletta of Phoenix, Arizona and Thomas and Brandy Belcher of Chandler, Arizona who will miss her deeply. She will also be missed greatly by her beloved grandchildren, Maura Nicole Benesch, Stephen Belcher, Alexandra Valletta and Gianna Belcher who consider her the most loving grandma in the world. Her family, brothers, sisters, cousins and many nieces and nephews will remember her fondly.
Ann will be remembered as a very kind and caring person. She enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles and quiz shows, music, travel and her family and extended family immensely. She was known to the end for her sweet nature and sense of humor.
Though she resided in Arizona for many years, she considered Watertown and Three Mile Bay her home, and missed them greatly.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 PM September 21, 2013 at the Praise and Worship Center, 2551 N Arizona Ave #3 Chandler, AZ 85225. Memorial donations may be made to Banner Alzheimers Foundation, 2025 N. 3rd St. #250, Phoenix, AZ 85004 in lieu of Flowers.
