This postcard of workers at the Albert J. Allen store in Brownville was taken around 1915. The store, described in Times files as being located ‘on a short street leading to the Brownville depot,’ was a frequent target of burglars. An article about a September 1915 break-in noted that the burglars stole $4.75 in change, several boxes of White and Black brand cigars and a quantity of shoe polish. In addition to owning the store, Albert Allen was a justice of the peace and president of the village. He died in 1929 at age 63. The photo was provided by Leland O. Bellinger, an Allen descendant who grew up in Brownville and now lives in Minnesota. Mr. Bellinger, a genealogist, said anyone seeking information on his ancestors or Brownville history in general can write to him at P.O. Box 94, Harris, MN 55032.
