The Massena Central and Salmon River Central varsity boys soccer teams opened the week by dropping NAC Central Division decisions on Monday.
Canton 3, Massena 0: At Roger Dusharm Field in Canton, the host Bears worked their way to a 1-0 halftime lead then put the game out of reach with a pair of goals four minutes apart midway through the second half en route to moving to 2-0 in the division.
Josh Huiatt opened the scoring when he turned a perfect lead pass into the area by Matt Mende into a breakaway goal with just 2:09 left in the first half.
Mende drew his second assist of the game when his direct kick from left wing was directed into the back of the net at the far post by Jake Facey 13 minutes into the second half. Stephen Folk made it 3-0 just four minutes later, converting from close range on a long throw-in from the left side by Tanner Sanderson.
Scott Wight handled the four shots he faced backstopping the win as the Bears improved to 3-1 overall. Cameron Marsh made 10 saves working the crease for Massena (2-2-0, 1-1-0).
OFA 6, Salmon River 1: In Fort Covington, the visiting Blue Devils scored four times in the opening nine minutes of the second half to break away from a 1-1 halftime draw.
Peyton Lalone put OFA on the board midway through the first half off an assist from Conor Hannan before the Shamrocks pulled even when Antoine Domino converted from Braton Burns 15 minutes later for the first goal surrendered by the Blue Devils through five games this season.
Hannan sparked the second-half surge with an unassisted goal in the fifth minute that held up as the game-winner before making it 3-1 just two minutes later assisted by Nate Peo. Dillon Binion, Matt Piercey and Jordan Miller scored the other OFA goals while Seth Pinkerton and Lalone each finished with solo assists.
Jacob Sias made six saves for OFA (5-0, 3-0) while Zach Smith fielded 20 shots for the Shamrocks (2-4-0, 2-2-0).
Franklin Academy 7, Gouverneur 0: In Malone, the Huskies surged to a 6-0 halftime as Alex Johnson connected for the first two goals then closed out the scoring with the lone goal of the second half to spark the winning effort.
Isai Paredones and Daniel Badgley each tallied a goal and assist while Kody Mulverhill and Hunter Lamica broke through for the other goals and Austin Lamay recorded four saves backstopping the shutout as FA improved to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the Central Division.
Tom Andrews posted 15 stops for the Wildcats (0-6-1, 0-4).
The West Division boys soccer games played on Monday saw Morristown edge Lisbon 1-0, Edwards-Knox stop Heuvelton 4-1, Harrisville blank Clifton-Fine 5-0 and Hammond outscore Hermon-DeKalb 5-3.
