Second person sought in Potsdam armed robbery

POTSDAM — Police are looking for two people in connection with the armed robbery Friday of a 93-year-old man outside his home at 420 Route 11B.

A person in a dark-colored pickup truck was parked in front of the home of the victim, Donald J. Jackman, when the robbery was taking place, witnesses said.

A St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department investigator said he believes that person was involved in the crime, even though witnesses did not see anyone enter or exit the truck at the time of the robbery.

“After speaking with Mr. Jackman, I knew the vehicle should not have been there,” Detective Sgt. Brooks J. Bigwarfe said.

Mr. Jackman was leaving his home, where he has a tools and equipment business, when he was robbed, Sgt. Bigwarfe said.

“Mr. Jackman exited his home into the shop where the individual was waiting for him,” Sgt. Bigwarfe said. “He pulled the gun on Mr. Jackman and stole an undisclosed amount of money from him.”

Anyone who was in the area of Mr. Jackman’s home about 3:45 p.m. on the day of the crime, and who might have information that could help the sheriff’s investigation, should call the department’s Detective Division at 379-2360.
