Evelyn J. Hughes , 79 , passed away Sunday Morning at Samaritan Keep Nursing Home where she had been a patient there since February of 2011.
Evelyn was born on June 11, 1934 in Alexandria Bay, The Daughter of Ernest and Bernice Cromwell Morrow. She graduated from Alexandria Bay High School. After school she married Edmund Hughes in May of 1954. Mr. Hughes passed away in 1975 at the age of 44. They owned and operated the Rainbow Motel and the Rainbow Lodge.
Evelyn loved music and dancing. She especially loved spending time with her brothers and sisters at family gatherings. She also belonged to the Senior Citizen Club in Watertown.
Evelyn was also very proud to have been a former Miss Thousand Islands
She is survived by her children Wayne and Julie Hughes, Kevin and Debi Hughes both of Brownville. Renee and Robert Montague , Galloway N.Y., and Kelly and Michael Lane , Summerville N.C.. She has 11 grandchildren and 7 great and grandchildren. Numerous nieces ,nephews and great nieces and nephews. Her surviving siblings are Douglas and Jean Morrow, Flagstaff AZ, Gary and Linda Morrow, Evans Mills, Richard and Sheila Morrow, LaFargeville, Toby and Donna Morrow, Pillar Point, Bertha Hodge , Brownville, Jerry Morrow ,Lowville and Patricia and John Phelps, Watertown.
She is predeceased by her son Bradley Hughes in 2009 , her sister Shirley Bacon and brothers William, Donald and Robert Morrow.
Calling hours will be Thursday September 19, 2013 from 6 to 8 at Johnson Funeral Home , Dexter. Funeral Services will be at 11 A.M. Friday at the funeral home with her nephew Rev. Ernest Morrow officiating. Burial will be in North Watertown Cemetery.
