MASSENA: Ronald J. McDonald, 86 of Talcott St, Massena died Thursday morning (September 12, 2013) at the Massena Memorial Hospital with his loving family at his side. There will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Resurrection be held for Ronald and his wife Geraldine, held 11:00 a.m. Saturday (September 21, 2013) at St. Joseph’s Church with Rev. Jack Downs presiding, Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Ronnie as he was known by family and friends was born in Ogdensburg, NY July 1, 1927 the son of Louis and Julia (Garceau) McDonald. He served in the US Army Air Force during WWII. Following his honorable discharge Ronnie started employment at Alcoa. He retired in 1982 as a Supervisor after 36 years.

On June 1, 1946, Ronald married the love of his life Geraldine Layo at the Church of Sacred Heart by Rev. Gerald Kellogg. Gerry passed away Friday August 30, 2013. Surviving Ronnie is three daughters, Kathleen Besaw, Marilyn O’Neel and Gloria Dupree all of Massena, four grandchildren; Erica Grant-Jacks, Kristen McDonald and Meghan Hunter all of Massena, a grandson Matthew McDonald of Ogdensburg and ten great grandchildren. Ronnie was predeceased by a brother Robert and a son in-law Robert Dupree. Ronnie was a 56 year member of the IBEW, a life Member with 38 years with the American Legion Post # 79, also a life Member of the AmVets Post # 4. He also was a 50 year member and 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council # 1141. Memorial contributions may be made to the Massena Rescue Squad, 341 East Orvis St. Massena, NY 13662 or St Mary’s Memorial Church Fund.
