Repairs to Massena inndustrial parks to begin this month

LOUISVILLE – The St. Lawrence River Valley Redevelopment Agency has approved repairs to its Massena industrial parks.

The repairs will include patching the roof and vent leaks, replacing doors, repairing plumbing and heating units and an electric inspection. The repairs are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The River Agency approved a bid by Danko Construction Corporation, Norfolk, on Tuesday to do the repairs for approximately $140,000.

The approved improvements will attract more tenants, River Agency members said. St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency Deputy CEO and Chief Financial Officer Thomas A. Plastino said the improvements will make the properties “more marketable, competitive sites.”

The River Agency applied for a grant for the total cost of repairs from the Regional Economic Development Council last year, but was notified in December that it will only receive a $60,000 reimbursement grant.

The River Agency will use $90,000 from its $12.2 million general fund to pay for the repairs. The agency purchased Lots 18 and 19 in the Massena Industrial Park, 12 Commerce Drive, in 2011, to use as a location for potential employers for $700,000. The River Agency has already spent $17,000 in repairs for the two lots. The industrial park has yielded $12,000 in profit for the agency.

Fockler Industries, an industrial and commercial machinery and equipment manufacturer, occupies 9,000 out of the 29,000 square feet of space in both lots.

“We’re still showing properties fairly regularly and still having discussions, but no signings yet,” Richard Williams, Facilities Manager for the St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency, said. “We’re hoping this will change that.”
