N-N, Malone lead CC Invitational


CANTON - Norwood-Norfolk swept individual honors while the Malone Boys and Girls used their depth to take team honors in the first Northern Conference Cross Country Invitational of the season which was hosted by Potsdam Central at SUNY Canton’s 5K course on Tuesday.

Kaycie Saucier (19:23) of N-N won a stunning duel with Lisbon Central senior Laura Pierce (19:23.50) running for Canton which only entered three runners in the meet.

Bekkah Bond and Carrie and Emily Pomainville of Malone rounded out the top five and the Huskies underscored N-N 24-54 for the team title.

Gouverneur placed third with 95 points followed by Potsdam at 103, OFA at 117 and Brushton-Moira at 121.

Rounding out the top 10 individuals were: Leah Livernois and Hannah Grey of N-N, Morgan Bronner of Malone, Madrid-Waddington student Cassidy Scott running for Canton and Madeline Champagne of Malone. Kurstyn Macaulay was OFA’s top finisher in 15th place.

N-N’s Kyle Fulk pulled away from the field in the Boys Varsity Race to finish with a 16:49.80-17:11 margin over Luke Dunkelberg of Gouverneur who held off Malone’s Dylan Lavoie (17:11.40) for the runner-up spot. Jake Erdman of Gouverneur ran fourth and OFA’s emerging first year cross country runner Donovan Smith took fifth.

Will Bronner, Ryan Tober, Joe Tracy, Patrick Gordon and Curtis Landry filled the sixth through 10th spots giving Malone the team title by a 33-61 margin over Gouverneur. N-N (77), OFA (112), Tupper Lake (118), Canton (176), Potsdam (181), Salmon River (233) and Brushton-Moira (239) rounded out the team standings.

Joe Grizzuto was OFA’s second runner in 18th place followed by Nick Vielhauer (23), Colin Sovie (39), Bailey Phelps (43), Owen Pearson (56), Sebastian Quintilliani (64), Nate Stowe (74), Dennis Garret (81), Ian Pearl (93) and Vinny Molinari (101).

Sara Mitchell placed 23rd as OFA’s second runner in the Girls Varsity Race followed by Ellen Miller (28), Shelby Mack (44), Markie Willard (57) and Shauna Rickett (58).


Canton’s foursome of Madrid-Waddington student Gabriella Scott (10:39), Grace Bessette, Clair Bartlett and Hanna Tupper led the Girls Modified (2500M) Race. N-N’s Lily Parmeter rounded out the top five. Cortney Loffler and Kiana Conger ran 16th and 23rd for OFA.

Canton posted a 1-2 finish in the Boys Modified Race with Timothy Allen (10:05) and Brandon Lorenc (10:07). Rounding out the top five were: N-N’s Corey Rowsam, Malone’s Josh Paquin and Salmon River’s Tyler Shorette.

Representing OFA were: Dylan Arquette (27), Alex Cole (35) and Ian Berg (42).
