Collegiate baseball: Alteri to return to Rams

Paul Alteri will return to coach the Watertown Rams for the 2014 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League season, the team announced on Thursday.

In his first year back coaching at this level, Alteri led the Rams to a 29-19 record this summer, including a franchise record for wins, as well the league’s West Division title in the regular season — the franchise’s first division championship since 2006.

Watertown, which started the season 5-10 and won 24 of its last 33 games to qualify for its first playoff appearance in five years, was swept by Elmira in two games in the West Division final series.

Alteri previously coached the team from 2001-03 when it was known as the Wizards and competed in the New York Collegiate Baseball League.
