WHITESBORO Indian River delivered what coach Cory Marsell said was a phenomenal defensive effort on Friday night as the Warriors edged Whitesboro 14-7 in a Section 3 Class A National football game.
Indian River, which improved to 3-0, allowed the games first score, but blanked Whitesboro (0-3, 0-2) the rest of the way.
With the Warriors leading by a touchdown, Whitesboro drove to the Indian River 5-yard line in the fourth quarter. But on a fourth-and-one, Raydo sacked quarterback Bodhi Forbes to end the threat.
Indian River was led offensively by Jakese Crocketts 103 rushing yards on 13 carries, including a 10-yard scoring run in the opening quarter. Deondre Grier (8 rushes, 72 yards) scored the go-ahead touchdown for Indian River in the third quarter on a 3-yard run.
CARTHAGE 27, OSWEGO 14
Quarterback Bailey Wilkinson rushed for a touchdown and threw for another as the Comets won a Class A National game at Oswego.
Wilkinson carried the ball nine times for 57 yards, including an 11-yard TD in the second quarter. He connected with Josh Yelvington for a 53-yard TD strike in the fourth quarter for Carthage (3-0, 3-0).
Yelvington also returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown, and Rodrick Groce ran for a 15-yard TD for Carthage.
Gunner Serota and Groce ran for 69 and 68 yards, respectively.
SOUTH JEFFERSON 36, MEXICO 26
Dylan Beckstead accounted for four touchdown runs as the Spartans used a 20-point first quarter to gain their first win of the season in a Class B East game in Mexico.
Beckstead had a pair of 2-yard touchdown runs, one from 11 yards out and another from 5 yards for South Jefferson (1-2, 1-1). Adam Hutchinson connected on a 49-yard touchdown pass to Austin Robare for South Jeffs other touchdown.
GENERAL BROWN 34, THOUSAND ISLANDS 19
Jared Christopher punched in two 1-yard touchdown runs and Zach Petrie rushed for 160 yards and scored on a 58-yard run to lead the Lions over the Vikings in a Class C North contest in Clayton.
Evan Will hit Dylan Heath with a 31-yard TD pass for General Brown (3-0, 1-0).
Tyler Gilfus completed 15 of 24 passes for 186 yards and three touchdown passes for Thousand Islands (1-2, 0-2). Travis Anderson ran for 108 yards on 17 carries.
IHC 37, ADIRONDACK 0
Michael Marra recorded two touchdowns in the first half and finished with six carries for 110 yards to help power the host Cavaliers to a decisive Class C North victory over the Wildcats.
Marra scored on a 48-yard run and a 93-yard pass from quarterback Cole Carpenter.
Haden Baker carried the ball just eight times for 128 yards, including a 66-yard TD run, for IHC (3-0). Nick Koelmel scored on a 43-yard interception return, and Jude Whalen rushed 46 yards for a touchdown.
SANDY CREEK 57, SOUTH LEWIS 6
Kyle Fayette accounted for 276 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns as the Comets routed the Falcons in a Class D Central game at Sandy Creek.
Fayette recorded three touchdowns on three separate 60-yard punt returns. He also threw two touchdown passes, including one of 25 yards to Cameron Hall and and 30 yards to Tyler Swarthout for Sandy Creek (3-0).
Matt Mooney scored on a 70-yard pass from Lucas Kelley for South Lewis (0-3, 0-2).
LOWVILLE 20, WEST CANADA VALLEY 7
Cameron Malik scored one touchdown receiving and another on a run as the Red Raiders remained unbeaten with an interclass win at Lowville.
Malik caught a 15-yard scoring pass from Isaac Widrick and added a 17-yard scoring run, both in the first quarter..
