OGDENSBURG Two people are being held in St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, following the seizure of narcotics Friday night.
Ogdensburg police said driver Jeffrey F. Hopper Jr., 22, of 124 County Route 16, Canton, and passenger Angela J. Hutchinson, 43, of 624 Irvin St., were traveling on Commerce Street when they were stopped over an equipment violation.
Police said an investigation and a U.S. Border Patrol K-9 free-air sniff led to a search of the vehicle, revealing a small quantity of crack and powder cocaine and drug paraphernalia in the passenger area.
Police said that during processing at the Ogdensburg Police Department, they searched the personal property of both suspects and found 1 ounce of crack cocaine, less than an ounce of powder cocaine, various narcotic pain pills and more than $6,000 in cash in Ms. Hutchinsons purse, along with a quantity of hypodermic needles in Mr. Hoppers belongings.
Mr. Hopper was charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument and turned over to the St. Lawrence County Sheriffs Department on a bench warrant from Oswegatchie Town Court alleging third-degree criminal mischief. He is being held in jail on $1,000 bail.
Ms. Hutchinson was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and is being held on $10,000 bail or $20,000 bond.
Police said the investigation is still open, with additional charges pending.
