GOUVERNEUR - Frank P. Langevin, 80, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Hospice of Jefferson County at Ellis Farm in Watertown.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, September 26th at 11:00 am at St. James Catholic Church, Gouverneur with Fr. Stephen Rocker officiating, and a celebration of life will follow the mass at the Casablanca Restaurant. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
Frank was born in Oswegatchie on August 16, 1933, the son of Roderick and Thelma Clark Langevin.
He graduated from Oswegatchie High School and served in the United States Navy overseas in Japan during the Korean War.
Frank married Patricia A. Lawrence on November 12, 1955 at St. Huberts Catholic Church in Star Lake with Fr. Robert Farmer officiating.
Frank had worked at J & L Steel Company in Star Lake and at Gouverneur Iron Works. He owned and operated P.A. Langevin Inc., a steel erector business, for 28 years. Upon retirement, the couple built their home at Sylvia Lake where they have lived the past 22 years.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and spending time on the golf course. Frank also enjoyed spending time working his backhoe for his friends, family, or himself. He was a devout friend and family man, especially cherishing his time with his grandchildren.
Frank was a member of the St. James Catholic Church, Gouverneur Elks Lodge, Gouverneur Investment Club, and Gouverneur Country Club where he was a past president. He was a past chairman of the board at the Gouverneur Savings and Loan where he was a director for 20 years, served on the Gouverneur Central School Board for 17 years and as a director at Cambray Senior Housing, and was a basketball coach for St. James Catholic School for 5 years.
Frank is survived by his wife Pat, a son Gregory Langevin and his wife Barbara of Gouverneur, his grandchildren Clinton Langevin of Toronto, Canada, Daniel Langevin of Denver, CO, Hillary Lancto of Gouverneur, Olivia Langevin of Gouverneur, and a great grandson Breagan Lancto. He is also survived by his brothers, sisters, and their spouses Maxwell and Peg Langevin of Marietta. PA, Roderick Langevin Jr. of Blackshear, GA, Bruce and Sharon Langevin of Star Lake, Paula and Bill Malady of Sandy Lake, PA, Elizabeth and Joseph Fowler of Robert, MT, his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Nelson and Donna Lawrence of Gouverneur, Dolores Tootie Lawrence of Star Lake, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents.
