Three representatives of the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority wrapped up Thursday their attendance at the three-day BreakBulk Americas Exposition in New Orleans to promote port trade.

“It’s going very well,” OBPA Executive Director Wade A. Davis said Thursday from the authority’s booth at the exhibition hall.

Events like BreakBulk, Mr. Davis added, are a good place to meet the movers, shakers and doers in the commercial port industry.

“BreakBulk is an excellent opportunity to showcase the region,” he said. “We’ve developed several new leads which when successful will generate significant jobs and economic activity for the region. We’ve met business and industry members from across the spectrum that utilize ports which creates jobs.”

Board Chairman Samuel J. LaMacchia and Director of Commercial and Industrial Development John A. Rishe also attended the BreakBulk meeting, which this year attracted more than4,000 participants as well as 280 international exhibitors.

The BreakBulk conference, Mr. Rishe agreed with Mr. Davis, is a worthwhile event to attend because many shippers, brokers, and transportation firms are all there and the OBPA has an opportunity to promote the St. Lawrence River port in one significantly-attended setting.

“It’s been a good show,” he said Thursday. “Business is all about relationships. We’re laying the groundwork.”

“I think it’s a progressive approach,” Mr. LaMacchia said. “Everybody’s looking for business.”
