NORFOLK - Massena-based state police charged Brandon M. Murphy, 19, of Norfolk with felony counts of second-degree sexual abuse, tampering with physical evidence and two counts of criminal sale of marijuana as well as a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child and an unlawful possession of marijuana violation. Troopers said the charges stemmed from a domestic dispute complaint filed with troopers at 12:44 p.m. Friday.
The tampering with evidence charge alleges Murphy tried to burn marijuana in a wood stove when troopers were investigating the complaint. The felony marijuana count alleges Murphy provided marijuana to two females under 14 years of age Friday afternoon for their use Friday and even though there was no financial transaction it is legally considered a sale when a person over 18 years of age provides marijuana to a juvenile.
Investigators also learned during their investigation that Murphy allegedly had sexual contact with one of the teenagers earlier in the week. Investigators said that incident reportedly took place Wednesday evening.
Murphy was arraigned by Madrid Town Justice Anya Tendler and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with no bail set.
