Council work session set for Monday to discuss staff changes

The Watertown City Council has set a special work session on Monday night to discuss what to do about some staff changes in City Hall.

City Manager Sharon A. Addison asked for the meeting to discuss the departure of Elliott B. Nelson, the assistant to the city manager who left Friday for a similar position in Illinois. They also plan to talk about some temporary help for her office while her confidential secretary, Elaine Giso, recovers from an illness. She is currently working part-time.

Council members also are expected to discuss filling what is now a part time fringe benefits position, which will soon be vacant as the result of a worker transferring to the water department.

Ms. Addison said she requested the meeting because there is “an immediate need” to fill the gap for the “critical staff positions.”

Mayor Jeffrey E. Graham figured it was a good idea to get council members together to talk about what the city manager has in mind to fill the gap for the third-floor, rather than talking to them on an individual basis.

The conversation may also turn to a possible City Hall retirement that may occur next year. City officials would not identify the staff who may leave in 2014.

The work session will start at 7 p.m. in the third-floor council chambers at City hall, 245 Washington St.
