Humorist featured at annual breast cancer awareness dinner in Lowville

LOWVILLE — A humorist from the Syracuse area will once again be the guest speaker at Lewis County General Hospital’s annual breast cancer awareness dinner.

Yvonne Conte will speak at this year’s “Give Cancer the Boot Dinner” on Oct. 15 at the Lowville Elks Lodge, Shady Avenue.

“Yvonne was the guest speaker at our first breast cancer awareness dinner,” Joanne Dicob, the hospital’s oncology navigator, said in a statement. “She has all new material and is looking forward to returning to Lewis County for the event.”

Tickets are still available for $30 per person by calling Denise Hirsch at 376-5235.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with a social hour beginning at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m.

Dinner choices include prime rib, chicken cordon bleu, and stuffed fish.

“The purpose of this event is to encourage those living with breast cancer, celebrate those who have fought the disease and honor those who have lost their battle,” states a hospital release.

Proceeds from the event benefit the LCGH Fund for Hope, which assists cancer patients with incidental costs such as gas, lodging and travel expenses.

After selling telephone equipment then doing stand-up comedy for five years, Ms. Conte in 1995 “began using her comedy to deliver messages in a corporate setting rather than in a comedy club,” the release states.

“Today, Conte’s message is designed to use humor to change the way her audience views life,” it adds. “She is a celebrated stand-up comic, author and a corporate humor coach and she attempts to show audience members how to be happier.”

Ms. Conte has 358 articles and essays and six books to her credit, and she is also the founder and CEO of Humor Advantage Inc., a motivational speaker group.
