On Sept. 13, a story by Jacob Teirney regarding an Amish buggy safety initiative to lessen motor vehicle accidents with Amish buggies was printed in the Watertown Daily Times.
Sen. Richie was involved in this effort of educating new drivers and erecting warning signs. The people involved should be applauded.
Howver, this effort is not enough.
I wonder why Sen. Ritchie does not lead an effort to make it mandatory for Amish buggies and wagons to display orange triangular caution signs, some kind of lighting (battery or kerosene operated) and reflector strips. I am a safe driver who has encountered buggies and wagons at night, which cannot be easily seen until you are very close to them.
This is dangerous. The drivers of these vehicles should take some responsibility for decreasing accidents involving their buggies and wagons.
