CARTHAGE In recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Carthage Area Chamber of Commerce is inviting downtown Carthage and West Carthage businesses to Paint Downtown Pink.
Chamber President Teri L. Ellis said the contest is being held not only to promote breast cancer awareness, but to build upon the sense of community pride in the greater Carthage area.
The Carthage Area Chamber of Commerces interest in Breast Cancer Awareness Month is very strong, Mrs. Ellis said. Breast cancer, among all other types, has touched many of us at least once and, for many, numerous times.
The chamber will offer a one-year membership or renewal as a prize for the best decorated business. The winning entry also will receive a one-year subscription to the Carthage Republican Tribune and a one-year subscription to NNY Business magazine.
Those interested in being judged can call the Chamber of Commerce at 493-3590 with the name of their business, address and contact number by Oct. 11.
Winners of the contest will be announced at the end of the month.
The chamber joins organizations such as the Carthage Area Hospital Medical Imaging Department and Split Endz hair salon that are promoting breast cancer awareness. Split Endz will offer pink hair extensions in the main lobby of the hospital from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday for a donation of $10 for the American Cancer Society. Medical Imaging will have a table set up throughout the month with information about breast cancer.
