The Potsdam Central and Massena Central varsity girls soccer teams closed out the first half of the NAC Central Division regular season by producing shutout wins on Monday.
Potsdam 4, OFA 0: In Ogdensburg, the visiting Lady Sandstoners broke the game open with three goals during a 13-minute span in the first half. Sophomore Savarah Aidun connected for the eventual game-winner in the 19th minute off an assist from Ally Miller. Kalie Grant made it 2-0 six minutes later by finishing off a play set up by Annette Rishe and Aidun. Rishe capped the decisive scoring outburst iin the 32nd minute assisted by Stephanie Kearing.
Rishe converted from Miller in the first minute of the second half to account for the final goal.
Bre Sapp, who has yet to surrender a goal through nine games this season, was counted on to make just one save working the crease for the shutout as Potsdam improved to 8-0-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the division and stands tied atop the Central standings at the midway point with Franklin Academy, which downed Norwood-Norfolk 6-0 in another Monday afternoon matchup.
Kristen Snyder posted four stops for OFA (2-7, 2-6).
Massena 3, Salmon River 0: At Mike Nicholas Field, senior Iastha Porter scored from Abby Laclair in the sixth minute and then from Natalie Hurlbut in the 24th to lead the winning effort. Serena Hall finished off a play set up by Mia Jermano with less than 10 minutes left in regulation to close out the scoring as the Lady Raiders improved to 3-4 in the division.
Bailie Young handled the four shots she faced backstopping the shutout while Wraven Sunday posted seven saves for the Lady Shamrocks (2-5).
FA 6, N-N 0: In Malone, Abilgail Collins and Gabrielle Collins each fashioned two goals and an assist as the host Lady Huskies tallied three goals in each half.
Annie Sharlow struck for the other two goals while Jayme Lavoie fielded the only shots she faced working the crease for FA (7-1-1, 6-0-1).
Megan Plumb recorded 24 saves for the Lady Flyers (0-8, 0-7).
Gouverneur 2, Canton 1: In the other Central Division contest on Monday, Gouverneur, Beth Hall converted off an assist from Emily Bush with 15 minutes left in regulation to lift the host Lady Wildcats (5-2, 4-2) past the Lady Bears (6-3, 3-3).
Emily Pinckney got Canton off to a fast start when she broke through for the opening goal just two minutes into the game. Danielle McCormick pulled Gouverneur even in the 23rd minute on an indirect kick.
Taylor Andrews stopped 14 shots in the winning effort while Katie Clemmer turned aside 10 shots for Canton.
In NAC West Division girls soccer action on Monday, Heuvelton beat Clifton-Fine 8-0, Hammond downed Edwards-Knox 4-1 and Lisbon blanked Hermon-Dekalb 4-0 while Morristown and Harrisville played to a scoreless draw. The lone West Division boys soccer game saw Lisbon outscore Hermon-Dekalb 5-1.
