Lyonsdale councilwoman chosen by GOP committee after primary tie

PORT LEYDEN — The town of Lyonsdale’s Republican committee has broken a primary tie for Town Council by selecting the incumbent.

The town committee late last week selected Councilwoman Nancy O’Brien-Dailey to hold a GOP line in the November general election, joining fellow incumbent and top vote-getter William L. Marmon, according to Lewis County election officials.

Ms. O’Brien-Dailey tied challenger John L. Smith for the second spot with 46 votes apiece.

After checking with the state, county officials determined that the local committee should decide the issue. And two committee members both chose to go with the incumbent, leaving Mr. Smith off the November ballot.

Fourth-place primary finisher David Butts, who holds the Conservative Party line, also will be on the ballot in a three-way race for two open council seats.
