Three Pamelia accident victims identified

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department investigators have identified the three people who died in Saturday afternoon’s accident on Route 342 between Route 37 and Interstate 81 in the town of Pamelia.

The victims in the 1995 Honda Accord were driver Lucas P. McCormick, 28, Cranberry Lake; front-seat passenger Kimberly A. Rawson, 38, Canton, and back-seat passenger Erik J. Swinyer, 25, Newton Falls. An unidentified toddler, also in the back seat, was flown to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, and is in critical condition.

The driver of the 2003 Ford pickup, Lois Toland, 64, Hammond, was taken to Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, where she is stable. She was the lone occupant of the pickup.

Sheriff’s investigators said the crash took place at 2:22 p.m., when the Honda, traveling west, crossed the double center line to overtake an uninvolved vehicle and hit the pickup truck, which was going east. The two vehicles hit head-on, sheriff investigators said.
