A last-second goal lifted Salmon River to a 1-0 win on the road over Massena while OFA turned back Potsdam Central 2-1 in NAC Central Division varsity boys soccer action on Tuesday.
Salmon River 1, Massena 0: At Mike Nicholas Field, the visiting Shamrocks snapped a scoreless tie with one second left in regulation when Josh Hynes finished off a play set up by Nick Hynes for the only goal of the game.
Zach Smith handled the 11 shots he faced backstopping the shutout while Brendan Broderick posted six saves working the Raider crease.
With the win, the Shamrocks improved to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the division. They will have a 10-day break before returning to action on Friday, October 11, at OFA. Massena slipped to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the Central heading into their next game this Friday at OFA.
OFA 2, Potsdam 1: In Ogdensburg, the Blue Devils built a 2-0 lead early in the second half before holding off a late charge to reach the midway point of the regular season tied atop the Central standings with Canton at 5-0-1.
David Prudhommer opened the scoring assisted by Peyton Lalone 27 minutes into the game for the lone goal of the first half.
Conor Hannan pushed the OFA lead to 2-0 when he broke through for an unassisted goal 12 minutes into the second half. The Sandstoners made it a one-goal deficit with eight minutes remaining on a goal by Jordan Emerson that was set up by David Caamano.
Jacob Sias made four saves in the winning effort while Jack Byrnes handled six shots for the Sandstoners (5-5, 2-4).
Canton 6, Gouverneur 0: The other Central Division game of the day saw the Bears raise their league record to 5-0-1 with a convincing win on the road over the Wildcats (0-9-1, 0-6).
Jake Facey and Matt Mende each tallied two goals and Tanner Anderson recorded one goal and three assists leading the Bears, who led 4-0 at halftime as Facey scored from Sanderson, Cody Moore connected from Francesco Palumbo, Mende converted from Sanderson and Sanderson hooked up from Jake Oatman.
In the second half, Mende finished off a Josh Huaitt pass and Facey connected from Oatman.
Scott Wight had three saves for the shutout. Taylor Andrews made 15 stops for Gouverneur.
In the NAC West Division boys soccer games on Tuesday, Heuvelton outscored Clifton-Fine 3-1 and Edwards-Knox did likewise to Hammond while Morristown at Harrisville was postponed to October 11.
