ACCO Brands has been a critical part of the effort by the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center Task Force to fight a proposal by the state Office of Mental Health to send inpatient services downstate.
Task Force Chair Charles W. Chuck Kelly said the local office supply manufacturing business has been donating binders that hold letters of support and information packets concerning the psychiatric center.
Those packets have in turn been delivered to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, Acting Commissioner of the OMH John V. Tauriello and several state lawmakers, Mr. Kelly said.
Its an important part of the effort, Mr. Kelly said.
Patrick J. Kelly, CEO of the St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency, said the Task Force has distributed roughly 60 binders so far.
ACCO Brands, 236 Acco Dr., could not be reached for comment.
Mr. Chuck Kelly said having ACCO Brands support the effort of the Task Force is critical because it shows there is community support for keeping inpatient care local.
The proposal by the OMH would see child services sent to Utica and adult care sent to Syracuse.
As a local industry they see the value in this battle, Mr. Kelly said.
Mr. Kelly said ACCO has delivered anything weve ever asked for. Its been very helpful to us.
The assistance began roughly three months ago, Mr. Kelly noted. Theyve been with us right from the beginning and theyve been consistent.
