Robert Oliver, 89, of North Bangor, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone with his loving family by his side. He had been a patient there since Sept. 28.
Born in Carthage on May 17, 1924, he was the son of the late Jesse and Louise Britton Oliver. He attended Carthage High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
On Nov. 21, 1951, he was united in marriage to the former Thelma Clark at the Baptist Church in Carthage. The marriage ended in divorce. She survives. He later married the former Elsie Cheeseman and that marriage also ended in divorce. She also survives.
Many years ago, Robert served as head of the meat department for A&P Tea Company in Potsdam. He later worked for more than 25 years as a meat salesman for the Wilson Meat Packing Company in the North Country.
Robert was a member of the Malone American Legion. He enjoyed feeding the birds, cooking, fly fishing, spending time at his camp on Lake Titus, watching the Lawrence Welk Show and his New England Patriots. He loved the companionship of his dog, Shadow.
Survivors include one daughter, Rose Oliver of Chateaugay; four grandchildren, Carrie King and her husband Chad, Jef Robinson, Adam Goring and his wife Andrea, and Brandon Goring; two great-grandsons, Tanner King and Chayton Goring; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Robin Goring in 2001; and 12 brothers and sisters.
There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
