Farms in Evans Mills and Lisbon will be among 51 across the Northeast that will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 13 for the third annual Open Farm Sunday, which features farms that produce milk made into McCadam and Cabot cheeses.
Country Cousins Farm owners Stanley S. and Sharon E. Horning will participate in the event by talking with visitors and showcasing their herd of 60 cattle and 270 acres of Evans Mills farmland.
In May 2012, the farm started offering day-trip visits and opened a cabin for overnight farm stays.
Featured in Lisbon will be Five Mile Farm, a 600-cow dairy operation with 1,200 acres of farmland. The farm, owned by the Akins family for more than 160 years, recently added a new heifer barn.
