College roundup: Clarkson golfers 2nd at Mid-Atlantic Championships


MACEDON — Clarkson University placed three golfers in the top 10, including Tyler Cline who finished tied for fourth, to take second place in the ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic Championships that concluded Sunday at Blue Heron Hills Country Club.

Cline fired a second straight 72 in the 36-hole event to finish at 2-over-par 144. Teammate Matt Blair placed sixth at 147 (76-71) and Rob Wood of Clarkson was tied for 10th at 150 (75-75).

Clarkson finished second to St. John Fisher in the team standings.

Conor Taity of SUNY Potsdam tied for 12th (151) as the Bears finished in seventh place.

n Nick Escalante scored two goals and assisted on two others as the SUNY Canton men’s soccer team beat SUNY ESF 4-1 Sunday at Canton.

Tyler Gallagher added goal and one assist for SUNY Canton (6-5). Goalie Evan Drew made one save to record the win.

n SUNY Canton fell 2-1 in overtime to SUNY ESF in a women’s soccer game Sunday at Canton.

Jade Sayward scored for the Kangaroos (5-6) in the second half. Brittany Roach made four saves for SUNY Canton. Susan Fassler connected for the winning goal in the second overtime for SUNY ESF (7-0-2).
