JCC appoints two to top posts

Jefferson Community College has named two new administrators to top posts at the school.

Ronald C. Shidemantle has been named the new dean of students and James A. Buyea has been named chief information officer.

Mr. Shidemantle, who most recently was the dean of students at the Enid campus of Northern Oklahoma College, will be responsible for leading student life functions at JCC, including residence life, student activities, judicial affairs, counseling and health services, according to a news release about the appointment.

He has worked as the director of residence life at Robert Morris University in Coraopolis, Pa., and served as the director of Greek life at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Virginia Tech, Blacksburg.

He will report directly to the vice president for students, Betsy D. Penrose.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ron to Jefferson Community College,” Mrs. Penrose said in the release. “His broad student life experience and extensive resident life background are the right mix for the College at this time with the construction of our first residence hall. We look forward to Ron making a significant contribution to student life at Jefferson Community College.”

Mr. Shidemantle holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and social work and a master of arts degree in student personnel from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Buyea has been vice president of technology services at Paul Smith’s College since 2011, where he oversaw systems, personnel and network monitoring.

Before working at Paul Smith’s, Mr. Buyea spend ten years at Utica School of Commerce as the director of institutional technology and director of distance education — two departments he was also responsible for establishing.

He will report to the vice president for administration and finance, Daniel J. Dupee II.

“We are excited to welcome Jim to Jefferson Community College,” Mr. Dupee said. “His experience in strategic planning and technology integration and infrastructure will serve the College well as Jefferson transitions to a 24/7 campus environment with the addition of residence halls.”

Mr. Buyea holds an associate of applied science degree in business administration from SUNY Morrisville, a bachelor of business administration and a master of science degree in business management/marketing from SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome.

JCC broke ground in June on a $17.5 million, 90,000-square-foot, 298-unit dormitory project.

It is expected to be completely furnished and staffed to open next July.
