Ogdensburg International Airport is getting some serious national exposure this week.
Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority Executive Director Wade A. Davis and board chairman Samuel J. LaMacchia are promoting the OBPA-owned airport at the annual World Routes 2013 convention in Las Vegas. The event started Friday and wraps up today.
With more than 300 chief executive officers, 1,000 airports, 300 airlines and 250 suppliers in attendance, Mr. Davis said, World Routes 2013 is an event where airport and airline officials meet so the former can promote to the latter the use of their facilities.
And well worth attending, he said.
Definitely, Mr. Davis said Monday. Im learning a lot about the airline industry.
Mr. LaMacchia agreed.
, he said.
Mr. Davis pointed out that, according to the Conference Board of Canada, more than 5 million Canadians will cross the Unites States border by land this year to fly out of United States airports. Ogdensburg being located 45 minutes south of 1.2 million Ottawa residents, he said, gives the airport here the potential to become Ottawas U.S. airport if the right carrier-airport combination is found.
Airports are the economic engines of the communities that they serve, Mr. Davis said.
OBPA officials have plans to expand the airport and lengthen its runway in order to accommodate larger planes.
You have to start someplace and this (the ) is one of the best places to start, Mr. LaMacchia said.
