Jason Comet wants the organ to become a little less intimidating for piano players.

Mr. Comet, owner of Comet Music Studio, 50 Public Square, regularly fields calls from area churches asking if he knows someone who can play organ for their services. He also gets calls from pianists asking for help on playing church organs.

Mr. Comet will host a workshop on basic organ registration and service playing from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 19, at his studio. Pianists will learn organ basics, how to select different sounds and when to use them.

Registration is required by Saturday. The cost is $15.

To register, go to his website at www.ja soncomet.com or call the studio at 408-3386.

“The support for this workshop has been tremendous,” Mr. Comet said. “Publishing companies have provided me with dozens of free music books written for pianists at the organ. One company has given me some funding to help cover expenses, and an organ company is graciously providing an instrument for the event.”
