Chase ends in arrest

Drew F. Bertrand, 19, of 275 English Settlement Road, was arrested Tuesday at 2:16 p.m. by Ogdensburg police for unlawfully fleeing a police officer, speed in zone, passing in a no passing zone, two counts of failure to stop at stop sign and inadequate muffler/motorcycle following a chase that began in the city on New York Avenue and ended in the town of Oswegatchie.

Police said Chief Richard J. Polniak received a motorcycle erratic driving complaint inside the city. The motorcycle was located on New York Avenue and allegedly attempted to elude police when a traffic stop was initiated by Sgt. Matthew J. Erwin.

With the motorcycle allegedly moving at speeds in excess of 25 mph, the pursuit moved to routes 68 and 37, passing vehicles on the road shoulder and in no passing zones to Lee and Haggart roads.

Mr. Bertrand was apprehended at the English Settlement Road home of his grandfather.

State Trooper Jason Davison assisted Ogdensburg police.

Mr. Bertrand is set to appear in city court on Oct. 18. Additional charges are pending.
