BRUSHTON - The Salmon River Central varsity girls volleyball team gained a 3-1 NAC East Division decision on the road over Brushton-Moira on Thursday.

Kera Ghostlaw served up a team-high 13 points as the Lady Shamrocks (8-5, 4-3) won the first two sets 25-19, 25-21 but dropped the third 25-12 before regrouping to claim the fourth 25-18. Raven Oakes (6 kills) and Brittany Brooks (5 assists, 2 kills) contributed 11 service points each while Raylynn Sunday fashioned nine points, six kills and five assists.

The other two NAC volleyball matches on Thursday saw Madrid-Waddington outlast Canton in five sets and Edwards-Knox sweep Gouverneur (25-13, 25-13, 25-12).

M-W 3, Canton 2: At Jerry Hourihan Gym, the visiting Lady Yellowjackets overcame a 25-18 loss in the opening set by winning the next two 25-22, 25-22 but Canton evened the match with a 25-13 decision in the fourth. M-W went on to take the decisive fifth set 25-16 as Janelle Trombley led a group effort with 20 points, five aces and six digs. Dia Richards chipped in 19 points, four aces, four kills and two blocks. Also making lead contributions were; Britianni Dawley (8 points, 10 sets, 2 aces), Jenny King (9 points, 8 kills, 3 blocks) and Simone Doelger (8 sets, 4 digs) as the Lady Yellowjackets improved to 4-8 overall and 3-3 in the West Division.

For Canton (4-8, 2-4), Rachel Sanderson, Cianna Willmart and Beth Pearson all tallied six kills and four aces along with 10 points, eight points and five points respectively.

GIRLS SWIMMING

In the lone NAC varsity girls swim meet on Thursday, OFA pulled away to a 108-62 interdivisional win at home over Potsdam.

Ari Frascatore emerged as the leading individual scorer for the visiting Lady Sandstoners (3-4), pacing the 500 freestyle in 6:35.17 while placing second in the 200 freestyle. Emma Kroll finished second in the 200IM and third in the 100 free while Katherine Blanchard was second in the 100 backstroke and third in the 50 free.

Susie Morrow, Natalie Perrigo and Chelsea Montroy scored two wins apiece for OFA (5-2).
