MASSENA A retired school superintendent has taken the helm of Nightengale Elementary School on an interim basis.
William H. Flynn, who retired as superintendent of the Ogdensburg City School District, replaces Shannon K. Jordan at a rate of $350 a day.
Ms. Jordan recently accepted a position with the St. Lawrence-Lewis Board of Cooperative Educational Services. The Massena Central School District board accepted her resignation, effective Oct. 13, during its September meeting.
We wish her well. Shes got a great opportunity. Its a nice opportunity for her and her family, interim Superintendent William W. Crist said.
The district has started advertising for a new full-time principal, with a closing date of Oct. 18 for applications. Mr. Flynn will serve as interim principal until the new person is hired. He retired as superintendent of the Ogdensburg City School District on June 30, 2006.
Once applications have been received for the full-time position, Mr. Crist said, the district will assemble a committee to take part in the hiring process. The committee will include some of the districts principals and likely parent representatives, who will have input into the process, according to Mr. Crist.
He said the district plans to have a permanent principal in place between Thanksgiving and New Years Day.
