POTSDAM State police arrested Darik M. Bradish, 19, Potsdam, on Tuesday and charged him with felony driving while intoxicated resisting arrest.
State and village police responded about 1 a.m. to a one-car accident on Route 11, where a 1981 GMC pickup that allegedly had been traveling west drove off the north shoulder of the road, striking a curb and then an embankment. The operator had fled the scene, police said.
They said Mr. Bradish was the operator of the truck and when they first made contact with him, he refused to be interviewed, struggled briefly with the officers and was placed under arrest. He then was turned over to state police in Massena.
Mr. Bradish was charged with felony driving while intoxicated because of prior convictions within the last 10 years.
He also was charged with disorderly conduct and unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under 21 years of age.
Additionally, he was issued traffic tickets citing leaving the scene of a property damage accident, refusal to take a breath test, failure to use designated lane and uninspected motor vehicle.
He was arraigned Potsdam Village Court and sent to the St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond.
He was issued an appearance ticket for Potsdam Town Court.
