Voters must return integrity to the Cape

The Town Board of Cape Vincent has scheduled a public hearing for Oct. 17. The purpose of the hearing is to allow the board to override the tax cap limit on the amount of real property taxes that may be levied by Cape Vincent pursuant to General Municipal Law 3-C.

Did you know that, according to the Jefferson County tax office, a member of the board who is up for re-election hasn’t paid real property taxes for the past three years? Worse yet, the board as a whole is more than $44,000 in arrears on their own property taxes. These are the people we have entrusted to prepare our town budget and tell us how much we owe.

As a taxpayer, I’m angry. As a resident, I’m concerned. We can’t let this go on any longer.

We need integrity, responsibility and accountability on our Town Board. Please make sure to vote this November and return some balance to the Cape.
