Mynter, Sweet named SUNY Canton Roos of the Week

CANTON - Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, NY) of the women’s volleyball team and Alexis Sweet (Norfolk, NY) of the women’s soccer team have been named Roos of the Week for the week ending October 13.

Mynter had an all-around impressive week leading SUNY Canton to an undefeated 4-0 week as she averaged 8.91 assists, 1.45 kills, 1.18 digs and 0.55 blocks per set. Against Maine-Fort Kent on Sunday she had a week-high 33 assists to go with six digs, five kills, two blocks and a phenomenal .625 hitting percentage. Saturday against the Bengals she hit .700 with seven kills and 28 assists. Mynter tallied 24 assists and four digs in a sweep of Morrisville State.

On the week she amassed 98 assists, 16 kills, 13 digs and six blocks all while hitting an incredible .457 on her 35 attack attempts. SUNY Canton defeated Maine-Fort Kent twice on the week. The Bengals came into the weekend with a 10-1 record. The Roos swept all four of their matches, as they did not drop a single set winning all 12 on the week.

The women’s volleyball team is back in action Friday and Saturday when they take part in the Clarkson University Invitational. The Roos battle the host Golden Knights Friday at 3 p.m. before a 5 p.m. tilt with SUNY Brockport. SUNY Canton will take on SUNY Geneseo Saturday at 2 p.m.

Sweet played her first game at forward this season for the Roos making the change in position as it resulted in her first two collegiate goals in a 4-1 win against Cazenovia College. The former Norwood-Norfolk Central standout was extremely accurate with all four of her shots challenging the opposing keeper and two of the four resulting in goals. The game was the only contest that the freshman appeared in during the 2-1 week for the women’s soccer team.

The Roos are back in action this Wednesday night when they host SUNY Institute of Technology at 7 p.m. The team will be raising funds for breast cancer awareness at their contest and it will be RooVuzela night. The first 500 fans will receive pink Roovuzelas. Vuvuzelas are plastic horns that produce loud monotone notes when they are blown into. This is a great opportunity for fans to support the women’s soccer team and come out and make some noise.
