NORFOLK - The Norwood-Norfolk Central varsity cross country teams closed out the 2013 NAC season with a tri-meet sweep at home over OFA and Salmon River on Tuesday.

Both N-N squads finished with 7-1 records to claim sole possession of second place in the final NAC standings behind their undefeated counterparts from Franklin Academy which closed with a sweep over host Canton and Gouverneur.

All the NAC teams will be headed to the SUNY Canton course next Tuesday for the 2013 Interdivisional Championship Meet starting at 3:30 p.m. The top seven overall finishers earn All-NAC First Team status while the next seven make up the Second Team. The 2013 Section 10 Championship Meet is slated for Tuesday, October 29, at the Salmon River Central course.

MEET AT NORFOLK

In putting together another successful season, the N-N boys and girls teams elevated veteran coach Kent Fetter over the 100-win plateau for his career. Since taking over the program for the 1999 season, he has guided the Flyer boys to a record of 104-23 and the Lady Flyers to a 102-25 record.

Kyle Fulk set the tone for the season-ending sweep over OFA (23-26) and an incomplete Salmon River squad by leading the boys field in a time of 17:45. OFA’s Donny Smith was second in 18:25.

Rounding out the top five finishers for the Flyers were Adam Saucier, who was third in 18:51, Deven Grant, who ran fifth in 20:03, Connor Levison, who placed sixth in 20:13, and Ben Gushlaw, who was eighth in 20:21.

Brandon Blyington paced Salmon River’s four-man contingent, placing 12th in 21:04.

In the girls meet, Kaycie Saucier led a 1-2-3 Lady Flyer finish with a time of 21:09 as N-N downed OFA 17-44.

Leah Livernois (21:51) outlasted teammate Hannah Gray (21:52) down the stretch to give the Lady Flyers a sweep over the top three places. OFA’s Kurstyn Macaulay was fourth overall in 22:14 followed by N-N’s Skylar Fetter (23:45) and Natasha Dominique (24:09).

Taylor Cook was the lone Salmon River competitor to run the course.
