MALONE - The Potsdam Central varsity girls soccer team bounced back from its first loss of the season by claiming a hard-fought 1-0 NAC Central Division decision on the road over Franklin Academy on Tuesday.
Annette Rishe broke through for the only goal of the game when she finished off a play set up by Kalie Grant with 2:28 left in regulation and Bre Sapp handled the five shots she faced to backstop the shutout as the Lady Sandstoners improved to 11-1-1 overall and 9-1-1 atop the Central standings.
Jayme Lavoie recorded two saves for FA (8-4-1, 7-3-1).
In the other Central Division games played Tuesday, Massena downed Norwood-Norfolk 4-0, Canton stopped Salmon River 4-0 and Gouverneur blanked OFA 3-0.
Massena 4, N-N 0: At Mike Nicholas Field, Bailey Dillabough took a pass from Iastha Porter along the left wing then launched a shot into the top right corner of the net 11 minutes into the game and the Lady Raiders made it stand for the win.
Serena Hall made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal with just over a minute left in the first half then converted off an assist from Porter four minutes into the second for the third Massena goal. Porter closed out the scoring two minutes later by connecting on a penalty kick awarded to the Lady Raiders after she was tripped up making a strong move toward goal.
Bailey Young handled the three shots she faced working the crease for Massena (7-6, 6-5). Megan Plumb logged 21 saves for the Lady Flyers (1-11, 1-10).
The Lady Raiders play at OFA on Thursday while N-N plays host to Canton.
Canton 4, Salmon River 0: At Fort Covington, the visiting Lady Bears (10-3, 8-3) pulled away from a 1-0 halftime lead for the win. Emily Pinckney notched the eventual game-winner off an assist from Tori Daley in the 19th minute. Lauren Smith finished off a play set up by Mary Kait Mace three minutes into the second for the second Canton goal. Mace went on to seal the win with back-to-back goals in the 29th and 36th minutes off assists from Jen Wilcox and Daley.
Katie Clemmer made two saves for the shutout while Wraven Sunday handled eight shots for the Lady Shamrocks (4-9, 4-7).
Gouverneur 3, OFA 0: In Gouverneur, Alysia Whitton struck for an unassisted goal with 13:40 left in the first half and that held up as the game-winner. Noelle Carbone sealed the win with a pair of second-half goals, the first set up by Emily Bush in the 11th minute and the second by Bell Hall with 7:42 remaining.
Taylor Andrews had 15 stops for Gouverneur (7-4, 6-4) while Alicia Garcia handled 18 shots for the Lady Blue Devils (1-11, 2-10).
In NAC boys soccer action on Tuesday, Franklin Academy gained a 1-0 Central Division win over Salmon River while Harrisville dropped a 3-2 non-league decision to Thousand Islands.
FA 1, Salmon River 0: In Malone, Adam Beane scored the only goal of the game with 11:40 left in regulation off a penalty kick awarded to the Huskies after a Salmon River player was called for a handball.
Isai Paradones (1 save) and Austin Lamay (5 saves) shared crease duties for FA (8-3-1, 8-2-1). Zach Smith handled seven shots for the Shamrocks (4-9, 4-7).
WEST DIVISION GIRLS
NAC West Division varsity girls soccer matchups on Tuesday saw Heuvelton blank Hammond 5-0 and Lisbon outscore Edwards-Knox 5-1.
