OFA runners split at N-N


NORFOLK – OFA Coach Chris McRoberts was very happy with the OFA efforts in a triangular meet against Norwood-Norfolk and Salmon River on Tuesday.

The Devils lost 23-36 in boys meet to the Flyers and beat Brushton-Moira 15-50 while the girls fell 17-44 to N-N and beat Salmon River 15-50.

“The Norwood-Norfolk course is always tough. Times are usually down there but we had some good efforts out there. Donny (Smith) was a little disappointed in his time but he is such a competitor,” said McRoberts who will lead his team into interdivisionals next week at SUNY Canton on Tuesday and the following Tuesday at Salmon River in the Sectionals.

N-N’s Kyle Fulk topped OFA’s Smith 17:47 to 18:25 for first place and Adam Saucier of N-N outran Joe Grizzuto 18:51 to 19:27 for third. Deven Grant and Connor Levison went 5-6 in 20:03 and 20:13 while Nick Vielhauer of OFA placed seventh in 20:21. Bailey Phelps was 11th while Sebastian Quintilliani and Collin Sovie finished 14th and 16th for the Devils whose pack was rounded out by Garrett Dennis (20th), Owen Pearson (21st), Seth Tebo (23rd), Ian Pearl (24th), Nate Stowe (26th), Alex Cole (28th), Tim Spearance (29th), and Vinny Molinari (30th).

In the girls race, Kaycie Saucier led a 1-2-3 finish for the Flyers in 21:09. Leah Livernois and Hannah Gray was second and third. Kurstyn Macaulay broke up the run in fourth for OFA with a solid effort of 22:14. while Sarah Miller took seventh in 24:24. Rounding out the OFA entries were: Ellen Miller was 11th, Shelby Mack 13th, and Shawna Rickett was 15th.

Malone Girls Top Canton

In meet hosted by Malone the host Huskies Girls and Boys both remained undefeated.

The Malone Girls downed Canton 20-40 and Gouverneur 17-41 and the Huskie Boys claimed wins of 15-73 and 25-38.

The Canton Girls downed Gouverneur 20-35 and Gouverneur Boys prevailed 18-49.

Bekkah Bond (19:21) and Carrie Pomainville (19:24) logged a 1-2 in the girls race with Lisbon senior Laura Pierce (19:37) taking third for the Bears.

Maria Ricalton, Carly Whiteford, Claire Bartlett and Cassidy Scott ran fifth, ninth, 12th and 13th.

Luke Dunkelberg (16:50) and Jake Erdman (16:51) posted a 1-2 in the boys race for Gouverneur and Will Bronner led a string of seven straight Malone runners. Darren Ricalton led Canton in 10th place.
