OFA girls sweep Gouverneur


GOUVERNEUR - OFA Girls Volleyball Coach Sue McLean was confident that her team would draw dividends from hosting the Kate’s Team Tournament on Monday.

The Blue Devils (5-2 West, 9-4) needed only one day to fufill their coach’s confidence as they swept Gouverneur (0-6, 0-13) 25-11, 25-19, 25-8 in NAC West Division action on Tuesday.

“The girls played with great confidence tonight. We split the team up for the tournament and when we put it back together everyone was really comfortable,” said McLean.

“We controlled the net led by Taylor Fisher who delivered 10 of her 18 kills in the first set to set the tone.”

The tournament also served as confidence builder for Kiana Zulauf (4 assists) who filled in for Emma Hart at setter and for Brooke Richardson (1 point) who had missed four weeks because of illness.

“Kianna Zulauf got to play a lot in the tournament and she stepped in for Emma Hart and set very well,” said McLean.

“Brooke Richardson saw her first action in four weeks at the tourney and it is just great to have her back and playing well.”

Fisher served for five points with two aces and scoring honors were shared by Adrianna Compo (4 aces, 1 kill) and Taylor Perry (4 aces, 6 assists, 6 digs) with 16 points. Sky Hoover followed with nine points, two aces, five kills, three digs and one assist.

Rounding out a victory where every player posted stats were: Paige Perry (4 kills, 1 point), Jessie Logan (2 digs), Grace Mashaw (2 points, 1 ace), Jennie Dalton (2 points), Kiersten Morrow (2 kills, 2 digs, 1 point), Shaunice Wallace (1 point, 2 kills, 1 ace) and Sara Richer (1 dig).

For Gouverneur, Alisha Way produced six points, two aces, one kill and one dig. Raennelle Durham tallioed three kills, two digs, two points, one ace, one block. Lauren Infield chipped in three points, one set, one ace, one kill and Mallory Austin posted two assists, 12 sets, one ace, one point and one dig.

Potsdam 3 - M-W 0: The Stoners (7-0, 11-1) maintained their hold on the West Division lead led by Miranda Mangual with 12 points, four aces, and three kills in the 25-7, 25-11, 25-16 victory. Victoria Mondragon contributed 12 points, four kills and three aces while Sarah Vivlamore tallied nine points, 20 sets, nine assists, one ace, one kill and one block.

Canton 3, E-K 1: Cianna Willmart (15 points, four aces and four kills) led the Bears (3-4, 5-8) to a 17-25, 25-21, 25-13, 25-16 win. Beth Pearson fashioned 11 points, seven aces and four killls. Megan Howard chipped in 10 points, two kills and two aces while Ali Mousaw recorded seven assists and two aces.
