Massena Music Friends putting icing on Dessert Cabaret

MASSENA—Desserts, decorations and “a little night music” will highlight Massena Music Friends’ second annual Dessert Cabaret from 7 - 9 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Italian American Civic Organization building on Beach Street in Massena.

The event marks the first major fundraiser of the school year in support of the Massena Central School music program.

“Last year’s dessert cabaret was a great success with just about $800 raised,” said MMF president Paul Haggett. “We’d love to get our fundraising off on the right foot and top that number.”

A cabaret is a very informal event showcasing the musical talents of Massena students, their teachers and community members. It also features delectable desserts. The event is equal parts social occasion, gastronomic experience and musical entertainment. Admission is $10 per person limited to 100 attendees, with all monies raised going to support beyond-the-budget needs of the school music program. Pre-sale tickets will are available at Massena Travel, 199 East Orvis Street.

For more information on the second annual MMF Dessert Cabaret, visit the Massena Music Friends Facebook page, the MMF website,, or call Paul Haggett at 250-1625.

Massena Music Friends’ fundraising for this year will focus on the purchase or repair of string basses for the elementary and junior high orchestra, beginning-level tubas for the elementary band and a new classroom keyboard for the junior high school music room.

MMF also hopes to pay for the refinishing of the wooden housing of the Steinway concert grand piano, which has graced the high school auditorium since the 1950s.

In addition to the cabaret, major fundraisers for Massena Music Friends include a benefit holiday concert Dec.15 by the Orchestra of Northern New York and a trivia night slated for mid- to late April.

MMF is currently seeking business and individual sponsors to help offset the performance fees associated with the December ONNY event.

For more information on sponsoring the concert, please contact Paul Haggett at 250-1625.
