SACKETS HARBOR The states Division of Human Rights has cleared the Sackets Harbor Fire Company following a discrimination complaint from former member Helene G. Stewart-Rainville.
In a written determination, the division said there was no probable cause to believe that the company had engaged in unlawful discriminatory practices, and that it had acted appropriately in terminating her membership in the volunteer company.
As President of the Board of Directors, I am pleased with the decision and believe that it affirms the actions of the Fire Company, Michael D. Hoagland said in a statement to the Times.
He said the company would have no further comment about the matter.
Ms.Stewart-Rainvilles attorney, Barry Schriebman, said the decision would be appealed.
