State police troop car damaged in Route 12E accident

CHAUMONT — No one was injured Monday morning when a state police patrol vehicle collided with a car on Route 12E in the town of Lyme.

Trooper David J. Delgado, 29, was traveling west on Route 12E just before 11:30 a.m. when he observed a vehicle speeding, pulled to the side of the road and activated his emergency lights. As he attempted to turn around, he failed to see an eastbound 2011 Ford Fusion driven by Rendi L. Merchant, 20, Cape Vincent, and pulled into her lane, striking her vehicle.

The troop car sustained extensive front-end damage, while the Merchant vehicle also was damaged. No tickets were issued, but state police will conduct an internal investigation into the incident.
