Donald Francis McGrann- Mr. McGrann, 93 of Charlotte, passed away on October 16, 2013 at The Stewart Health Care Center. Born November 28, 1919 in Deferiet, NY, Donald was the son of the late Karl F McGrann and Lulu Hickman McGrann. A US Army veteran, Mr. McGrann served with the 319 Bomb Sq 90th Bomb Group (H) 5th AF duringWorld War II. As a pilot of a B-24 Liberator, Donald flew 63 missions in the Pacific Theater from 1942-1943. Following his Honorable Discharge in 1945, Mr. McGrann returned to University of Notre Dame and graduated in 1947. He moved to Thorold, Ontario, Canada where in 1948 married Barbara McMillan and also began his career in the paper industry.In 1974, Mr. McGrann founded the McGrann Paper Corp. in Watertown, NY. He retired in 1990 as Chairman of the Board. The McGranns had moved to Hilton Head Island in 1986, there Don enjoyed a good round of golf or a tennis match.Mr. McGrann was a devout Catholic. He attended Mass daily and served as a Lector of every parish he was a member. Don was also a 20 year member of the Kiwanis Club. Donald was preceded in death by his sister Barbara McGrann.Survivors include his wife of 65 years Barbara M. McGrann; 5 children Julia (Dennis) Dougherty, Martha (Mark) Ryan, Sheila (James) Shalleck, Karl (Sharon) McGrann and Donald McGrann; brother Frederick McGrann; as well as 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.The family will receive friends on Friday, October 18th, 2013 at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Rd, Charlotte. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30PM with Reverend Mark Lawlor celebrant.
