COPENHAGEN Copenhagen sophomore Claire Stackel has been selected as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/TopDrawerSoccer.coms national high school player of the week in girls soccer.
Stackel leads Section 3 scorers in goals (41), assists (27) and points for the Golden Knights (15-0), who are ranked second in the state by the New York State Sportswriters Association.
She tallied seven goals and three assists in wins over LaFargeville, Sackets Harbor and Lyme last week.
Against the Red Knights last Monday, Stackel scored four goals and surpassed the schools single-season scoring record with her 35th goal of the campaign.
After posting two goals and two assists against Sackets Harbor just two days later, and with Copenhagen trailing Lyme at the half last Friday, Stackel assisted on the tying goal and then scored the winner.
Stackel, who was a finalist for the award last week, registered four goals and an assist in the Golden Knights 5-1 victory over Alexandria in a Frontier League Class D Division semifinal on Wednesday.
