Massena JV gridmen fall to OFA


OGDENSBURG - After going undefeated through its first five games, the Massena Central junior varsity football team dropped a 35-16 NAC decision on the road to OFA for its second straight loss on Thursday.

The junior Raiders led 8-6 at the end of the first quarter but were outscored 20-8 in the second and never recovered. Abe Derushia carried the ball five times for 55 yards, including touchdown runs of 25 and 21 yards in the losing effort. Patrick Manning churned out 132 yards on 15 carries and scored a two-point conversion while Jason Zembeck had 32 yards on seven rushes. Quarterback Maddox Merry completed three of seven passes for 26 yards and ran the ball four times for 26 yards. Brady Currier had a 10-yard run and a 10-yard catch. Ethan Marcello contributed an eight-yard carry while Derushia (10 yards) and Zembeck (6 yards) had the other receptions.

Derushia also played a lead role defensively with seven tackles. Alonie McGee notched six tackles and two sacks. Zembeck (1 sack) recorded five taclkes followed by Turner LaFrance with four and Marcello (1 sack) with two.

The junior Raiders will look to get back on track next Thursday at home against Gouverneur.
